The dictionary defines the word Culture as:
"1. development, improvement, refinement of the mind, manners, taste etc. b) the result of this
2.the ideas, customs, skills arts etc. of a given people.
Born and brought up in Mumbai - has a lot to do with this !!! It makes you see things very differently !!!
As Mumbai embraces everyone with open arms ... along with their cultures... it redefines the meaning of culture altogether... In turn all the cultures together resembles the Culture of Mumbai...
And its so true - that we are made of the places we have lived...
Celebrating 'Life' with all the people in Mumbai - I realised that my culture is not limited to Maharashtrian culture alone.. its much more than that !
And about food ... I cant think that Thepla, Lassi, Pachadi's, Aloo Paratha is not a part of my culture..
In a broader sense, I just wont say I love food from all the other cuisines... But the true thing to say is
I Feel a Part of all these Cultures & their Flavors... as I've been associated with all of it in my life...
As if my hometown cultural gumbo wasnt enough ... I got married to Mr G from Chennai.
A Maharashtrian, but born in Bangalore... brought up in Chennai.. spent his best adolesent years in Vizag, Studied in Pilani-Rajashtan, worked couple of yearsin Australia & finally settled in USA !!! Phew - that was some virtual trip ... ;)
And we are not done yet - The head of the family & his choices made a lot of difference at my In-laws place..
My Father in Law served as a GM for Taj Group of Hotels for long years in his career of 35 years.. no matter what - everyday he always came home for meals ..
That made my mother in law made really delicious & variety of meals to please him & his taste... and as a respect of preferring home food to the Ala grande menu..
It was then obvious that their son(& my hubby) was fond of different FLAVORS with so many things being cooked at home !!! :)
All My passions: Cooking, photography, writing, learning new things & interacting with people is now simmering & flavoring under one POT named Cultural Flavors.
